It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mom, grandma and great-grandma, Kristina (Kente) Zavos who passed away peacefully on April 14th, 2026, in the arms of her daughters, after a long and brave battle with Alzheimer's. While the disease stole her memories and occasionally her smile, it could not take her beautiful spirit.
Mom didn’t give big speeches or long lectures, she didn’t talk about strength, independence and life lessons - she lived them. We always thought she was made of steel. Now we understand her strength wasn’t loud, it wasn’t glamourous and it wasn’t the kind that gets applauds. It was the strength of a woman who kept going when quitting would have been easier. A strength built in early morning, late nights and a heart that kept giving even when it was tired. Her strength became her family’s strength, her resilience became our inheritance and her love became our foundation.
Our manoula was a devoted mother but her true passion came from her grandkids. She retired as a seamstress at the age of 44 to raise her granddaughter and in later years her grandsons. A hard-working soul who taught her daughters strong work ethic and the importance of family.
Her home was always filled with family and friends. You could not visit without eating at her table. A beacon of warmth to all who knew her.
She was born in Greece and loved to travel back every year, where she made memories with her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Jenny (Jimmy) & Fay (George), her granddaughter, Christina, her grandsons, Nicholas & Ilias and her great-grandsons Michael & Nicholas, whom she adored. She is reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband, Ilias.
Her funeral will be held at Rideau Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4239 Sources Blvd, Dollard-Des Ormeaux, Quebec H9B 2A6 on Monday, April 27th 2026 between 3:00 to 5:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Church services will be held on Tuesday, April 28th, 2026 at 10:30 am at Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 20 Brunswick, DDO, Quebec, H9B 2N8.
A special thank you to Annie & Belinda at Valeo residence for their unwavering commitment and kindness they showed our mom.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the amazing staff at CHSLD l’Ouest De l’Ile le Manoir for the compassionate care, dignity and support they provided to our mom in her final days. A special mention to Winnie her primary caregiver and friend. Your kindness and dedication will never be forgotten. You truly made a difference in mom’s difficult journey and we will remain forever grateful.
You are all angels on earth.
