1928-2024

With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Mrs. Lida De Luca, who peacefully departed on April 5, 2024, marking the conclusion of her remarkable journey at the age of 95.

Born on October 3, 1928, Lida was proudly welcomed into this world by her parents, Clotilde and Raimondo, in Rochette a Volturno, Italy. From a young age, her path was intertwined with that of her beloved husband, Giuseppe Pontarelli. Growing up together in their small town with her brothers Guglielmo, and Antonio and sister Annita, Giuseppe (peppe) and Lida met as children and were united as adults in matrimony on May 1st, 1947. They built a family, raised two cherished children, travelled to Canada to make it their home in 1960, and spent over 50 years building incredible memories together, until his passing on July 13th, 1999. Those memories live on in the hearts of their entire family.

Her joys were simple but profound; nestled in the warmth of her family, incredible meals, precious plants, and filling the contents of her cantina. She especially cherished the bonds she shared with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, affectionately known as Nonna and Bisnonna, and was always present to shower them with love and guidance (adoringly shared whether solicited or not).

As part of her legacy, she leaves behind a tapestry of affection, woven by her loving children: Dominic and his wife, Silvana; Antonietta and her late husband, Lorne, her grandchildren: Jennifer (Davide), Steven (Alicia), Angela (Michael), Joey (Cynthia), Corey, and Gillian (Gregoire), cherished great-grandchildren: Dario, Dante, Mila, Enzo, Juliette, Eva and Mika, her surviving sister, Annita and late husband Dominic, alongside her nieces and nephews, Americo (Monique), Rita (Isidore), Tilda (Franck), and Vince (Nicolina) and numerous other family members and dear friends, who mourn her loss.

In place of flowers, the family humbly requests donations to St. Joseph Oratory In Memoriam Gift, an institution that held deep significance for Lida, continuing her compassionate spirit in perpetuity.

Viewing Information:

Expressions of condolences will be received at Yves Légaré Complex in Lasalle, 7200 Newman Blvd., on Sunday, April 14, 2024, from 5 - 9 pm.

Funeral Information:

The funeral service will be held at the Basilique Notre-Dame de Montréal Church, 110, Notre-Dame Ouest, on Monday, April 15, 2024, at 10 am (Parking available at 500 Places d’Armes), followed by her interment at 1 pm, at the Rideau Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 4239 Sources Blvd, Dollard-Des-Ormeaux - reception to follow at Rideau Funeral Home, from 1:30 - 3:30 pm.
