Another diamond in the sky. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lilo Hagen, (née Lieselotte Luise Laufer) on Sunday June 6th, 2021, at the age of 88.
Pre-deceased by her loving son Stefan (Nadia) and survived by her loving daughter Christina (Cash) and grandson Kyle.

Pre-deceased by her brother Rudi, and her twin sister Waltraud and sister Magdelena, and survived by her half-brother Christian (Aimée) from France, and half-sister Ingrid from Germany. Loving sister, aunt, sister in-law and friend to so many from Canada, Germany, USA, England, Bahamas and Spain.

Lilo was born on May 25th, 1933 in Bad Homburg, Germany to Carl Laufer and Louise Faulstroh. Her brother Rudi was first, and she was thought to have been child number 2, turned out her identical twin sister Waltraud beat her by 5 minutes and she was number three (no ultrasounds back then) and then little Magdelena a year later.

Lilo did not have an easy childhood growing up during the war, however at the young age of 23, decided to leave everything behind and board a ship by herself for Montreal, Quebec, became a Canadian Citizen and never looked back. She found her first job in a kitchen. Her first English sentence was “I would like to peel potatoes in the kitchen please”. Her favourite job of many was being a barmaid downtown at the Heidelberg House. That was the beginning of her new family. She married Horst on September 18th, 1965 and stayed united for 43 years. A devoted wife and mother who gave and loved unconditionally for her family, especially for her children Stefan and Christina.

Lilo had a certain unique flare. She always sparkled and shined inside and out...no matter what the occasion was, and that never changed. Her beautiful smile would light up the room, and a kindness that was indescribable. She was a great friend too so many people, In addition to her large family of sister and brother in laws, nieces and nephews, but also the Hockey and Ringuette Gangs from the arenas, her Tap Dancing Girls, and all the ones in between.

Lilo had many talents. She really knew how to host a party, and there were many! Annual Pool & Garden Parties and New Year's Celebrations at home. She was an amazing Artist, Colourer and did many paintings for family and friends. She could craft anything out of nothing. She sewed many of her own clothes from a young age, knitted, and made costumes for her Tap Dancing shows every year.

She loved to dance since she was young, and was always very good at it, but only in her 50’s decided to take on Tap Dancing and found a new love and passion. That’s when she signed up at the Ethel Bruneau Dance School, with Kim Reany, and had been dancing ever since. Kim over the many years, was no longer her teacher but a wonderful caring friend.
The last 10 years she settled into her Seniors home with “Fred” where she found a new passion. It was called Thursday’s Happy Hour. She may not have remembered everything anymore, but she did not forget Happy Hour! She was back in her element from the good old days. And her favourite saying with a Rum and Coke in hand... ”Am Arsch Bemoost, Prost! ”

There is so much to be said about someone who was so wonderful to this world, so kind, caring, compassionate, empathetic, sensitive, heartfelt, loving and just beautiful. Lilo made everyone she ever met smile with her famous words......“a little glitter never hurts”. With a heavy heart, she will be forever loved and missed.

In lieu of flowers, we request donations to be made to the Oncology department at the Lakeshore General Hospital.
