Lily Harrison
February 26, 1936 - September 29, 2023
In Loving memory of Lily Harrison
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lily Mildred Harrison, on September 29, 2023 in Ottawa, at the age of 87.
She will be greatly missed by her children Raulina Harrison and Renate Harrison (Seppo Sahrakorpi), and her sister-in-law Phyllis Harrison. She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren Zachary Sahrakorpi, Aleksi Sahrakorpi, and Otso Sahrakorpi. She also leaves behind her sisters Joan Dorothy Auguste Marais, Theresa Ann Auguste, and Geraldine Bernadette Auguste, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
Born on February 24, 1936, in Durban, South Africa, Lily's journey through life was marked by determination, resilience and hard work. She was the oldest of nine siblings, including the late Maureen Auguste, the late Patricia Mary Auguste, the late Brenda Rosalind Enoch, the late Mirriam Mohammed, and the late Malcolm Gabriel Auguste. In 1967, she left South Africa to marry Guy Harrison (from Brownstown, Jamaica) in London, England, thereafter, embarking on a life-changing decision to move to Canada, where she would plant her roots.
Lily was known for her strong work ethic and her ability to surmount difficult circumstances. For most of her adult life, she worked as a sewing machine operator in the garment district of her beloved city of Montreal.
In 2020, the world faced an unprecedented challenge in the form of the COVID-19 pandemic. Lily fell ill from COVID and moved to Ottawa to live with Renate, while Raulina kept in close touch to lift her spirits. Lily cherished every moment living with her grandchildren, relishing in the joy they brought to her life.
Lily Harrison's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Lily Harrison will be deeply missed. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
The family will receive condolences at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 des Sources, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Qc on Friday October 6th as of 10am followed by a service at 11 am.
