It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Maguy Oueis, who died peacefully at her home in Montreal on January 12, 2026, at the age of 80.
Born in Haifa, Palestine, on November 10, 1945, Maguy’s life was defined by a quiet but unbreakable resilience. At just three years old, she and her family were displaced to Lebanon, where she grew into a woman of immense grace and capability. After marrying Rene Awad in 1976 and later facing his untimely passing, Maguy stepped forward to lead the family’s sewing machine business with a determination that would mark the rest of her life. In 1989, she made the courageous decision to emigrate to Montreal, seeking a future of dignity and opportunity for herself and her son, Alain.
To those who knew her, Maguy was more than a friend; she was a 'second mother' and a 'godmother' whose kindness reverberated through her family, her church, her neighborhood, and every life she touched. Whether she was baking for loved ones, solving a complex puzzle, or capturing beauty through her paintings, she found joy in the simple and the profound alike. She was a tireless advocate for human rights, carrying the struggle for Palestinian dignity in her heart throughout her journey.
Maguy is survived by her son, Alain and his wife Nancy, her beloved grandchildren Angelique, Dante, and Sylas; her sisters, Souad and Helen; the families Khawam, Mansour, Akol, Hazboun, Kteily, Awais, Kamar, Fashey, Bichouty and Jabbour.
Donations in her memory can be made to Paroisse Notre Dame de L’Annonciation
