It is with much love and fond memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Margaret on Friday, February 16th, 2024 at CHSLD Lachine.

Margaret is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Steve, who was not only her life partner but also her steadfast caregiver. She is also survived by her loving daughter, Mireille (Craig Pho), her brother Tony in the U.K., grandchildren William, Alex and Zachary, cousin Kathy (Gord Taylor), sisters-in-law Elsa and Simonne (Norman Cookson), as well as several nieces and nephews in the U.K.

Born in Edgeware, outside London, U.K., Margaret was the firstborn child of John and Mary Gallagher, immigrants from Ireland. At the age of 20, Margaret embarked on a life-changing adventure with her dear friend Brenda, making their way to Montreal in 1966. Both girls found employment at EXPO 67 - Margaret as a secretary for the Administration and Brenda as a hostess at the UK pavilion. It was during these exciting times in Montreal that Margaret met her future husband and later settled in Rosemere where they raised their only daughter Mireille.

Throughout her life, Margaret battled mental illness. While she faced many challenges and endured plenty of hardships over the years, the battle eventually took its toll on her physical well-being, and especially over the past year. A heartfelt thank you is extended to Connie, whose unwavering care and companionship enriched Margaret’s final years.

A church service will take place on Saturday, March 2 at 11am at St. John Fisher Parish, 120 Summerhill Ave. in Pointe-Claire and will be live streamed (sjfp.org). A small reception in the parish hall will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to the Douglas Hospital Foundation, 6875 LaSalle Blvd, Montreal QC, H4H 1R3, (fondationdouglas.qc.ca) would be appreciated.

Her beautiful soul will stay forever in our memory.
