It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Godbeer.

She is survived by her brother Ken (Gale), nephews Jonathan (Laura) and David, five great nephews and nieces and six cousins. Margaret was pre-deceased by her parents Mary and Victor Godbeer, daughter Katherine Houle and nephew Christopher Godbeer.

Margaret led a life of service to others, having been a Social Worker until she retired followed by a life of Social and Political activism and citizen’s advocacy. She could often be seen protesting with the Raging Grannies, assisting the less fortunate in dealing with government services, driving them to appointments or for groceries or delivering Meals on Wheels.

She was active in the Lakeshore Unitarian Universalist Church where she served as Treasurer and co-ordinator of the online services as well as in the West Island NDP Association. As a lifelong resident of Dorval she was also active in citizen’s advocacy, serving for several years on the board of her Condo as well as promoting and supporting community events.

In her “spare” time Margaret enjoyed knitting, playing bridge, lawn bowling and attending theatre and music events.

Memorial donations may be made to Hope and Cope (https://hopeandcope.ca/en/get-involved/donate/) or VOBOC Foundation (https://voboc.org/donate-now/) in memory of her daughter Katherine Houle, or to the Lakeshore Unitarian Universalist Congregation (https://luuc.org/about-us/join-in/donate/) of which she was Treasurer until her passing.

A memorial service will be held both in person and via Zoom at 2:00 pm Eastern time on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Lakeshore Unitarian Universalist Church, 5065 Sherbrooke St, Lachine, Quebec.

Please send an email to margaretg0618@gmail.com indicating whether you will attend in person or via Zoom.
