It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margaret Turfus, on May 15, 2025, at the age of 100. She was born and raised in Montreal before moving to Chateauguay where she resided for the last 64 years.
She is predeceased by her husband Frederick Turfus (1983), her brothers John Witts (1973) and Francis Witts (1995), her sister Florence Jones (2024) and her partner Lorne Whittall (2014). She will be lovingly remembered by her son Robert (Joanne), and her three grandchildren Scott, Kristin and Caitlin. She also leaves behind nephews, nieces, and friends. Margaret was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, colleague, and friend to those who knew her. Always willing to lend an ear, a helping hand, or offer guidance to those who asked - especially the countless former students at Howard S. Billings High School who referred to her as “mom”.
Margaret worked as a secretary at the former St. Regis Paper Company in Montreal and then years later as a hall monitor at Howard S. Billings High School in Chateauguay. She loved her family, her friends and also loved to have fun and to travel.
A Celebration of Life to honor Margaret’s life will be held at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 boul. Des Sources, Dollard-des-Ormeaux (Quebec) H9B 2A6, on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., followed by a private family burial at 2:00 p.m.
Special thanks to the staff at the Assisted Living Unit at Sonata Residence in Chateauguay and the doctors and nurses at Anna Laberge Hospital in Chateauguay.
If so inclined, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
