It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marilyn Emery on June 8, 2025 at the age of 78. Marilyn left us peacefully after bravely enduring years of health challenges.
Marilyn was born on May 14, 1947. She lived a rich life, growing up in Anjou, graduating from Dunton High School and attending services at Anjou United Church. Marilyn received a diploma in secretarial studies at Sir George Williams University and started working at CN Rail shortly thereafter, where she spent her entire career.
During a ski trip with friends, Marilyn met Edgar Emery who, on May 31, 1969, became her husband. During 39 years of marriage, Marilyn and Ed raised two sons and a daughter: Kevin (Silvia), Chris (Jaime) and Karin. On March 13, 2008, Ed left Marilyn to prepare a place for her in Heaven.
Marilyn was a loving mother to Kevin (Silvia), Chris (Jaime) and Karin. She was a devoted grandmother to Sophia and Karina (Charles), a wonderful sister to Ian (Monica) and Ann (Barry) and a good friend to Gretta. Marilyn was a beloved aunt to Sarah (Jules) and Christina (Manuel). Marilyn was the eldest child of Thomas Govan and Janet Govan (nee Gilmour). She was a wonderful older sister to her brother Ian (Monica) and her sister Ann (Barry).
Marilyn was an active member of the United Church of Canada, first at Anjou United Church, and then at Roxboro United Church after her family moved to the West Island. She was a cherished member of the United Church Women, where she formed many friendships. She also kept in touch with friends from high school and from CN Rail.
Marilyn’s love, devotion to her family, perseverance, strength and resilience made her a role model to her family and friends who will deeply miss her but never forget her.
Family and friends are invited to gather in her memory at Rideau Funeral Home on Sunday, June 15, 2025 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A celebration of life will take place at Rideau Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at noon (doors open at 10:30 a.m.) to honour Marilyn’s life and legacy. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation.
