In the early morning of May 6, Mary Soul (née George) passed away peacefully at Bayview CHSLD at the age of 88 after a long bout with dementia. She was the beloved wife of Joe Soul for more than 60 years, loving mother to sons Colin, Graham and his partner Pierre Gélinas, daughter Janet and her partner Michael Pinholster.

Mary grew up in London, England, and emigrated to Canada as a young woman after the War. She met her husband Joe playing tennis in Montreal, where they subsequently married, settled and raised their three children. In addition to tennis, she enjoyed walks in nature and was an avid gardener. She was a voracious reader and belonged to several book clubs over the years. She loved art, theatre, and music, and was a chorister in 3 different choirs, a hand bell ringer and a volunteer for the Stewart Hall Art Gallery. Indeed, she volunteered for numerous organizations over the course of her lifetime, giving generously of her time and talents, including at the church she attended in Pointe-Claire. She was very kind and sweet, despite her gift for sarcastic quips, and was always ready to listen and make a cup of tea for anyone who needed help or a listening ear.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or the Jewish General Hospital Foundation.
https://alzheimer.ca/en/Home/Get-involved/Ways-to-donate
https://www.jghfoundation.org/en/donations/products
