Maureen McCourt Benak
April 23, 1944 - August 10, 2024
It is with immense heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maureen McCourt Benak on August 10, 2024. At the ripe age of eighty. Maureen, otherwise know as “Sam” passed away peacefully at the Jewish General Palliative Care Unit with family by her bedside.
Daughter of the late Sally-Ann Jones McCourt and Edward McCourt, and niece of Catherine (Kathleen) McCourt Doe ”Auntie Kay” and Uncle (Jim) James Doe.
Maureen will be deeply missed by close friends and family and especially missed her husband, John Benak and daughter, Kathleen (Kay) Benak and Punkin (their Siamese cat).
Maureen was married to her beloved husband and best friend, John for which they would have celebrated 58 years this coming September 17th, 2024.
Maureen had a courage and strength that was indescribable throughout her entire life and faced all hard times and health issues with determination that was beyond compare. She was a real “Trooper".
All this with her sense of talent and creativity, Thus, her sense of humour, her quick wit and love of laughter, animals and nature. Along with her childlike fascination with all things will be greatly missed by us all. Our love for Maureen “Sam” will remain and live on in our hearts forever.
While a short stay, my family extends our sincerest gratitude to the Palliative Care Unit at the Jewish General Hospital for the wonderful care they gave my mother during her stay. Mom had a peaceful atmosphere to grow her angel wings while transitioning to the other side as she was treated with the utmost care and dignity.
Memorial service August 24th from 12pm to 4pm at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Sources Blvd, Dollard-Des Ormeaux, QC, H9B 2A6.
In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that you make a donation to the Montreal SPCA or in Ottawa, the Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue (OSCatR) in memory of Maureen McCourt Benak.
