Michael (Mike) Fostaty
January 3, 1930 – March 5, 2021

Dad came from humble and challenging beginnings and managed to pull himself up by the bootstraps despite not having any boots. He created a full and successful life for himself and his family through hard work and self-reliance tinged with stoicism and grit. It was that same stoicism and grit that he used in his final weeks, determined to stay with us for as long as he could. We take comfort in the thought that he and Mom are together again.

Mike was predeceased by Betty, his wife of 53 years, his brother Gerry and his dear friend Claire Boivin. He is mourned by his children Michael, Sue (Iain Young), Steve (Lisa Letourneau) and Sandy (Ari Elkaim), five grandchildren - James (Juliana), Alison (Morgan), Reid (Hannah), Nicholas and Liz, three great-grandchildren, brothers- and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews. His friends, gained through a long career at CN, liturgical service to Mary Queen of Peace Parish, community-building in the Sunnybrook area, golf and bridge, will miss his sense of humour and general ‘kibitzing’ (as Dad would say).

Unfortunately, due to the current restrictions regarding social distancing, the visitation and funeral will be private. A celebration of life with family and friends will take place at a later date when COVID restrictions allow for such gatherings.

In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in our Dad’s memory to the Teresa-Dellar West Island Palliative Care Residence (www.residencesoinspalliatifs.com/en/), NOVA West Island (www.novawi.org) or Benedict Labre House (www.benedictlabre.org).

In the meantime, settle in with family to a home-cooked supper and exclaim with gusto, as Dad would have: A feast! Veritable, veritable!
