It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michael James Duplessis on February 15, 2026, at the age of 96.

Michael was born on October 2, 1929, in Castries, Saint Lucia, in the West Indies. From humble beginnings, he shaped a remarkable journey defined by sacrifice and dedication. In the mid-1950s, with remarkable courage and determination, he immigrated to Canada carrying little more than a suitcase, the clothes on his back, and a few dollars in his pocket. Through hard work, resilience, and unwavering perseverance, he built a life that stands as a lasting testament to his strength of character.

After settling in Montreal, he took on many demanding manual labour roles, which included working in hospital facilities and the construction industry. He was especially proud to have contributed to the construction of Place Ville Marie, a landmark that stands as a testament to his dedication and work ethic. He later found great satisfaction in his career installing car radios, in an era when new cars rolled off the lot without one. Back then, a radio was a special add-on, and owners chose to have one installed as an extra feature. He took immense pride in his craft and was known for his skill, precision, and willingness to share his knowledge with others. Michael will be remembered not only for his strong work ethic but also for his spirit and love of nature.
Beyond his work, Michael had a deep love for gardening and found peace and satisfaction in tending to his vegetables, nurturing them with patience and care. His garden was a source of pride and a reflection of his quiet dedication.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Anne Marie Duplessis (née Mathurin), his devoted children: Peter, Anthony (wife Erika) and Julianna. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Kori, Pandoranna, Noah, and Sienna. He will also be deeply missed by cherished family members, the David, Eloise and St. Omer families, as well as many extended relatives and dear friends, who were blessed to know him.

His strength, wisdom, laughter, and love will remain in our hearts forever. Though he is no longer with us, the memories he created and the lessons he shared will continue to guide and inspire us.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered … Always.
