Dear, dear Mike died on Jan 18 2024 aged 88 years old. Son of Michael McKennirey and Eileen Tierney, he leaves to mourn his wife of 64 years Antoinette Freda. Children Susan (Roy Kelly), Shawn (Anne Girard) and Martin (Gina Vallianos). Grandchildren, Christopher, Emily, Andrew, Rachel and Ryan. Four days after Mike’s passing Great Granddaughter Nora was born. Pre deceased by siblings, Mary (David Mahony deceased), Marjorie, Peter (Liliane Lalonde) and Elizabeth (Jacques Picard).
Mike worked for forty years at the National Film Board of Canada as a documentary film maker. He travelled through the ranks of sound and picture editing to directing and producing. His love of nature resulted in many acclaimed wildlife films. In retirement, these animals were often the subjects found in his oil & acrylic paintings.
This past year and a half Mike stoically and with humour lived his life. Many thanks to the MUHC, the Gingras-Lindsay Rehabilitation Institute, the CLSC Pierrefonds, Nova West Island and the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence. We as a family needed your support and shall be ever grateful that you were always ready to assist.
Visitation at Rideau Memorial Gardens, 4275 Sources Boulevard, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec on Thursday February 15th from 11.30 A.M. followed by a service at 1.30 P.M.
