Michal Hawraniak passed away peacefully at Lakeshore General Hospital on September 26, 2026, at the age of 83.
He immigrated to Canada in 1965 and, after holding various positions, joined Air Canada in 1970. He worked as a sheet metal specialist for 31 years. Michal cherished travelling with his wife and family and lived a full life surrounded by family and friends.
A devoted member of Montreal’s Ukrainian community, Michal served in various capacities, organizing banquets and recruiting players for S.A. “Ukraina.” As the club’s coach from 1995 to 1999, he led the team to multiple championships.
Through his generosity and compassion, Michal sponsored several families immigrating to Canada, enabling more than 20 extended family members to build better lives. He warmly welcomed newcomers, brought people together, and helped several individuals find employment. His kindness had a lasting impact on many lives.
Michal will be greatly missed by his wife of 57 years, Elzbieta; his sons, Mark (Laura) and Andrew (Brandelyn); his grandchildren, Alexa, Thomas, and Vivian; his sisters, Justyna, Marika, and Teresa; and his many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family members.
Viewing will be held on October 8, 2026, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Rideau Funeral Home, 4189 Boulevard des Sources, Dollard-des-Ormeaux.
Burial will follow on October 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Lakeview Memorial Gardens, 701 Avenue Donegani, Pointe-Claire, followed by a celebration of life with family and friends.
