<div itemprop="description">Version française plus bas. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mounir Saba, known affectionately as "Mony" and "Baba". He passed away at the age of 76 on June 23rd, 2022 after a brave battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jocelyne Landry, daughters Sophie Saba (son-in-law Peter Milaszuk) and Ali Saba; brothers Akram Saba and Samir Saba (Suzanne Neander), sisters and brothers in law, cousins, nieces and nephews. <br> <br>He was born in Haifa, Palestine, and was the middle child of the late Naim and Rose Saba. From the ages of 2 until 23, he grew up in Beirut and Brummana, Lebanon. He left Lebanon for Montreal in 1970 where he would spend the rest of his life, gathering with family and friends, playing sports and taking up one hobby or another. <br> <br>As a young adult in Lebanon, he was a back-up dancer in various festivals and performed on stage with Fairuz. In high school, he held records in track and field. One of his happiest memories was swan diving from the cliffs at the Sporting Club while whistling. <br> <br>Mounir was an avid sportsman throughout his life. In the seventies, he was part of the Nuns Island tennis club. In 1975, he fell in love with golf and played regularly ever since. Since three years ago, he picked up curling and was a member of the Glenmore Curling Club. <br> <br>Other passions included Aboriginal jewelry (he had a boutique at one time), billiards, duck carving and word games. He was a fierce Scrabble player. <br> <br>Mounir would stay in shape and indulge his love of conversing with people through his work as a mailman for 18 years until he retired. <br> <br>After more than 40 years at the same residence, he was a life-long neighbour and friend. <br> <br>He will be deeply missed by all and will forever be in our hearts. <br> <br>A portion of the Celebration of Life will be open for the attendees who would like to say a few words. <br> <br>Watch the celebration live: https://funeraweb.tv/en/diffusions/56742 <br> <br>In lieu of flowers, donations made in his memory to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated, by clicking on “Make a Donation” at the bottom of the page. <br> <br>........................ <br> <br>C’est avec une profonde tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de Mounir Saba, surnommé affectueusement « Mony » et « Baba ». Il s’est éteint à l'âge de 76 ans le 23 juin 2022 après une lutte courageuse contre le cancer. Il laisse dans le deuil sa conjointe avec qui il a vécu 47 années, Jocelyne Landry, ses deux filles Sophie Saba (beau fils Peter Milaszuk) et Ali Saba, ses deux frères Akram Saba et Samir Saba (Suzanne Neander), ses belles-soeurs et beaux-frères, ses cousins et cousines ainsi que ses nièces et neveux. <br> <br>Il était né à Haifa, en Palestine et était le deuxième fils de feu Naim Saba et de feu Rose Saba. De l’âge de 2 à 23 ans, il a grandi à Beirut et Brummana, au Liban. Il a quitté le Liban pour Montréal en 1970, où il demeura le reste de sa vie, auprès de sa famille et ses amis, toujours immergé dans le sport et de nouveaux passe-temps. <br> <br>Comme jeune adulte au Liban, il était un danseur de scène pour divers festivals et a performé avec Fairuz. Au secondaire, il détenait des records en athlétisme. Un des ses plus beaux souvenirs était de faire le plongeon du cygne aux falaises du Sporting Club tout en sifflant. <br> <br>Mounir était un grand sportif tout le long de sa vie. Dans les années 70, il était membre du Club de Tennis Île-des-Soeurs. En 1975, il avait tombé en amour avec le golf et dorénavant, devint un amateur dévoué. Depuis trois ans, il avait entrepris le curling et était membre du Club de curling Glenmore. <br> <br>Ses autres passions incluaient les bijoux Autochtones (il avait une boutique à l’époque), le billiard, la sculpture de canard en bois et les jeux de mots. Il était un adversaire redoutable au Scrabble. <br> <br>Mounir restait en forme et profitait de chaque opportunité pour bavarder avec les gens à travers son travail de facteur pendant 18 années avant sa retraite. <br> <br>Après plus de 40 ans à la même résidence, il était un voisin et ami de longue date. <br> <br>Il laissera un grand vide dans la vie de tous ceux qu'il a touchés et restera à jamais dans nos cœurs. <br> <br>Une portion de la Célébration de la vie sera ouverte pour les personnes qui souhaiteraient dire quelques mots. <br> <br>Visionner la célébration en direct: https://funeraweb.tv/en/diffusions/56742 <br> <br>En lieu de fleurs, des dons à sa mémoire à la Société canadienne du cancer seraient grandement appréciés, en cliquant "Faire un don" au bas de la page.</div>
