Narinder (Nini) K. Singh (nee Gill)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful mother, grandmother
and great grandmother on Feb 21, 2023 at the age of 89. She is pre-deceased by her husband
Kartar and daughter Rishma; survived by her loving children Amrita and Sonia and her
grandchildren Cara, Rachel, Celina and Darius as well as her great-grandchildren Mara and
Cole.
Nini immigrated to Canada with her husband Kartar and daughter Rishma in 1958 from India
and embraced her new home. She brought her past experience as a teacher in India to her
new life in Canada and volunteered in the educational system with special needs children. In
1975 she started a new career as a librarian with the Beaconsfield Library and had the creativity
to start the first India tea in 1991 to help the public understand more about the South Asian
culture that she came from. These teas became a popular annual West Island event for 25
years that people looked forward to each year.
Nini had a love of art and enjoyed sharing her knowledge with others as a volunteer at the
Stewart Hall Art gallery in Pointe-Claire. She was a longstanding member of the Montreal
University Women's Club and over the many years of membership, participated actively in
various activities including the book club, travel group and the investment banking group. She
always had a book by her side and enjoyed sharing her many life stories with others. She could
talk to you about any topic, she was so well read. Full of laughter and smiles, Nini was a friend
to many and a support to those in need.
Our mom, grandmother and great-grandmother will be dearly missed by all those whose lives
she touched. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the
Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society would be welcomed.
