It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Neville on Saturday, January 4th, 2025. Neville was born on February 14th, 1939 to Kate (nee Housty) and Charles Matthews in Guyana, South America, where he was raised along with his six siblings: Godfrey, Gordon (Leyton), Florizel (Dolly), Pelham, Peggy and Gem.
Neville is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Verena and his two daughters: Nicole (Yvan Arseneault) and Lori (Nissa Grant), and his granddaughter Vivienne. Neville loved them all dearly. He is also survived by his siblings Peggy and Gem as well as many nieces and nephews.
Neville left Guyana in 1961 and graduated from the Faculty of Science at Sir George Williams University in 1966. He was subsequently married to Verena on September 14th, 1968. He was a very beloved science and chemistry teacher at The Chomedey Polyvalent High School for more than 30 years. He was an avid chemist at home, producing his own wine and curating his own garden plants and vegetables from scratch.
He lived his life as a quiet man but was a powerful thinker. He was a visionary, purposeful planner and an excellent provider and mentor to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
The family will receive condolences at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Sources blvd., Dollard- des-Ormeaux, QC H9B 2A6, 514 685-3344, www.rideaumemorial.com, on Monday January 13th, from 3:00 to 7:00pm. Celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday January 14th at 11am followed by the burial.
