It is with immense sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ms. Patricia Johnston, in Montreal, at the age of 72, on Saturday November 11th, 2023. She was admitted to St Mary’s Hospital, emergency ward on Friday night, November 10th and transferred to Intensive care unit later that night. She valiantly fought for every breath before she succumbed to death, from (undiagnosed) leukemia.

Patricia will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Alison; her former brother in law and friend, Pierre Audet; her cousins, Greg and Grant Butt and their families; her Goddaughter, Ali Hudson; her best friend, Molly Hudson and numerous friends and business colleagues.

Patricia was predeceased by her parents, Kathleen (Kay) and Gordon; her partner, Dani Avaron, his parents, Ester and Gaston and her beloved dogs, Bonnie and Rusti.

Patricia graduated from Verdun Catholic High School, in the late 60s, and was valedictorian. She graduated from McGill University with honors in the 70s.

She was extremely proud of her Scottish heritage and described herself as a *Proud Celt* when telling friends about her ancestry.

She was a diligent, dedicated, dynamic businesswomen. She worked for Point Zero up to the time she had to go to emergency. She even asked to have her laptop brought to the hospital so she could keep up with correspondence. Her work ethics and dedication to her work responsibilities and her colleagues were beyond reproach, at the highest level.

She loved horses and in her 50s she started taking riding lessons. She had natural equestrian skills. Even when thrown headfirst off her horse, Charlie, fracturing her wrist, she was back in the saddle within two weeks. Her love of horses and riding outweighed any pain in her wrist.

Patricia was an accomplished baker. In her teens, her cakes, pies and treats were the highest selling items bid on at the church’s bake sales. She made dark fruitcakes every year and gave them to family and friends. She started a business called Patty Cakes for a short time before more strategic business opportunities called.

Patricia was determined to master any task or skill she put her mind to. And most times, successfully.
She maintained a strong exterior but was kind and warm hearted. She would rather keep her life burdens to herself than share them with others, even those closest to her. She never wanted to impose or cause anyone to worry. Those who knew her appreciated her warmth as well as her (sometimes wicked) sense of humour.

We will miss her greatly, but cherish our memories, especially as Christmas time approaches, a holiday season that she loved very much.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 2nd , at the Rideau Funeral Home and cemetery in Dollard des Ormeaux, from 11:30am to 1:30pm, followed by a short remembrance service from 1:30 to 2pm. Her burial beside her partner will commence at 2:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St Mary's Hospital Intensive care unit, who gave her such amazing care until her last breath.
