On Tuesday January 16th, 2018 at the age of 80 years old passed away peacefully at the West Island Palliative Care Residence after having suffered from a stroke while in hospital. Beloved husband of forty-one years of the late Micheline (Bidnyk) Belisle. Loving, giving and devoted Father of John (Lisa Lindover), Eric (Lisa Estrela) and Peter, proud grandfather of Jessica, Ethan, Jacob and Hannah, loving brother to Madeleine (Gary Loomis) and Louise (John Symynkywicz), brother in law of Stan Bidnyk (Jocelyne Remy), special family friend and care-giver, Karen Azoulay. Paul was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, U.S.A. and later continued his schooling in Quebec, Canada. In May 1965 Paul graduated from the School of Dentistry at the University of Montreal. After graduating, he served in the U.S Army as a Captain from 1965 to 68. During this time he completed 1 tour of duty in Vietnam with the 36th Medical Detachment (Dental Service) and was awarded 5 medals for his outstanding military service. After being honorably discharged from the army, Paul returned to Canada to proudly raise his family and practice dentistry in the West Island. Over the years Paul volunteered his time with various organizations. However, he truly enjoyed volunteering his time coaching baseball in DDO and hockey at various levels within the North Shore Hockey organization. Through his coaching and mentoring he had a positive impact on many of the players he coached, a number of which went on to have professional careers in the NHL and Europe. Most of all Paul loved coaching and watching his boys and grandchildren play and excel at sports, and delighted in all their other life accomplishments, particularly those of his very special son Peter. “As a general Rule” Paul was encouraging and helpful with a smile and a compliment to give along the way. His gregarious personality and friendliness to others were hallmarks of his personality. He was loved and adored by everyone he touched and will be sadly missed by his family and friends but fondly remembered by all who knew him. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at the Lakeshore General Hospital, 4 North, and the staff at the West Island Palliative Care Residence. Visitation will be held at Rideau Funeral Home on Saturday, January 27, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. and Monday January 29th from 8:30 - 10:30 am. The Funeral will be held at St. Luke's Parish on Monday, January 29, 2018 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery. Family and friends may sign the Book of Condolences. In lieu of flowers a contribution may be made to the family in consideration of Paul’s very special son Peter or a donation may be made to the West Island Palliative Care Residence.
