PHYLLIS CORINNE (DALZIEL) SIMON, in her 96th year, passed peacefully from this world on the 24th of June 2022. Loving mother of Debbie Simon (Gord Asprey) of Kirkland and Jimmy Simon (Ray Storey) of Toronto, Phyllis was the proud grandmother of Ryan Asprey (Patricia Lafontaine), Derek Asprey (Stephanie Williams), Stuart Asprey (Sarah Turcotte), Lianne Asprey (Andre Lagarde), and Wilfred Storey. Born on September 26, 1926, and raised in Montreal’s North End, Phyllis was the eldest child of the late John and Gertrude Dalziel. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Wilfred Simon, and her siblings: her devoted sister, Trudy Allatt (wife of the late Walter Allatt); and her brothers, Ken Dalziel (husband of Adrian), and John Dalziel (husband of the late Mary Dalziel).

An academically accomplished student and natural athlete, Phyllis graduated from Montreal High School before going to work to help support her family. She was in the accounting department at Sun Life when she met and fell in love with Wilfred Simon, whom she married on her birthday in 1953. While raising two children, in the home the couple built in what was then a farm field near Gouin Blvd in Cartierville, Phyllis was an active member of St. Laurent Presbyterian Church, an avid bowler and bridge player, and a tireless volunteer who spent many hours with husband Wilf at the Cartierville Boating Club. Hers was an active life, highlighted by cherished summer holidays with extended family on the beach at Ocean Park, Maine. It was a great blow to Phyllis when Wilf passed away at age 54 after 27 years of marriage. In later years, Phyllis lived quietly. She took classes through the Faculty of Extension, she travelled and was an inventive knitter who gifted her grandchildren with memorable sweaters. As the matriarch, she presided over many holiday dinners where conversation often turned to lively debate -- Phyllis was opinionated and unafraid to speak her mind, especially passionate when defending those she loved. At her heart, Phyllis was a tender soul whose family meant everything to her, and she will be sadly missed.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Manoir Beaconsfield for their extraordinary care during Phyllis’s final months. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation in her memory are appreciated.

Mom you will be deeply missed and remembered forever.
