It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas Leslie (Tommy, Tom) Pitts at the Lakeshore General Hospital on March 22, 2024 after a brief illness. He was 86 years old. Tom was a loving husband to Joan (Chisholm) for 60 years and was a beloved father of Leslie (Jane) and Jennifer (Dominic) and grandfather of Thomas and Spencer. He is survived by his siblings William (the late Joan), Lynn (Ron), David (Michele), and Richard (Diane). He was predeceased by his siblings Louise (Joe/Ginny), Lorraine (Ted) and Robert (Maureen).

Tom was born to Leslie and Rochelle (Carignan) Pitts in 1937 during the twilight of the Great Depression. The second of eight children, he was raised in Pointe-Saint-Charles, and attended D’Arcy McGee High School and Holy Family Parish. He worked for A.C. Leslie & Co. for almost his entire career; he began there as a shipping clerk in 1956, worked for many years in sales, and retired as a partner of the company in 2006. He met Joan there in 1959, and they married in October of 1963. They moved to Pointe-Claire in 1970, where they raised their family and cultivated many enduring friendships. He was a long time parishioner at St. John Fisher Church, and was a dependable and generous neighbour for forty-six years until he and Joan moved to an apartment in Pointe-Claire Village. Tom enjoyed vegetable gardening, do-it-yourself home projects, and being absorbed by works of popular historical non-fiction. He had a deep fondness for animals; generations of family pets adored him, and many a neighbourhood dog counted on him for a furtive treat. Although seldom idle, golf was his favourite leisure pastime, and he enjoyed more than four decades of membership at The Beaconsfield Golf Course.

Tom touched many lives. He was a devoted husband to Joan. In 2023, they celebrated their sixtieth anniversary in Ogunquit, Maine, one of their favourite post-retirement vacation spots. He was a nurturing and ever-supportive father to Jennifer and Leslie. Tom happily embraced his daughter-in-law Jane and son-in-law Dominic into his fold. He was a joyful grandfather, and delighted in every opportunity to see his grandsons and be a part of their lives. Tom loved his brothers and sisters, his close relationship with his sister-in-law Beverley and brother-in-law Leon, and his many nieces and nephews. He cherished his and Joan’s close friends and their many times spent together. He will be sadly missed.

There will be a graveside service at noon on Saturday April 6, 2024 at Lakeview Memorial Gardens, 701 av. Donegani, Pointe-Claire, QC. A reception will follow at Rideau Memorial Gardens, 4239 boul. des Sources, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, QC. The family wishes to thank the ICU staff at the Lakeshore General Hospital for their wonderful care. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Jagdesh Metha, MD for his more than 40 years of care as their family doctor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation, the SPCA de Montreal, or a charity of your choice.
