It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, Quait Yin Ah-Seng (nee Yeung Fai Chong) at the age of 95 years.

As a family, we are grateful that he joyfully celebrated his 95th birthday as well as his 75th wedding anniversary with our mother, Thang Nat Yin (nee, Tzey Lee Fong), in May 2023. He leaves behind a legacy of love, respect, and dedication to his whole family. He had a profound impact on the lives of their eight children, twenty grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Dad was born on the island of Mauritius in 1928 and was adopted by a loving family. At the age of 7, he moved to China only to return to Mauritius three years later. To help his father take care of the family business in Port Louis, he had to leave school at the age of 15. At 20 years of age, after meeting the love of his life, he married our mother, four years his junior.

Dad worked very hard to raise his eight children. He was a jack of all trades and was once even a shoemaker. He was a very good cook with his favorite dishes: “Pit Tu Kiok” and “Foong Moune”.

In January 1981, he immigrated to Canada, and with the help of mom, they set up a small clothing business in the basement of their residence in Montreal. He thoroughly enjoyed his life in Canada, while also reconnecting to his roots in Mauritius several times.

We will always cherish the time we spent with him at Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year. A good after dinner game of poker with family always brought him joy on those special occasions.

The Ah-Seng family would like to express their unending gratitude to Dr. Nathalie Ng Cheong and Dr. Mathieu Walker at St. Mary’s Hospital for their dedication in ensuring that our dad received the best possible medical care. Additionally, we wish to thank Dr. Walsh, who made dad feel comfortable in his final days at St Mary’s Hospital as well as to all the staff on the 8th floor and palliative care.

Quait Yin is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Thang Nat Yin; their children: Solange Ah-Seng, Aline (Andre) Lee Kim Koon, Cyril (Linda) Ah-Seng, Jocelyne (Roger) Kwok-Choon, Georges Ah-Seng, Joyce (Laval) Chan, Jacqueline (Michel) Yin and Patricia (Michael) Sayegh; their twenty grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be sent to the cardiology or renal fund at the St. Mary’s Foundation.

https://stmaryshospitalfoundation.ca/donate-now/

Family and friends are invited to pay their final respects in any of the following ways.

Farewell Dad, Rest In Peace!
