IMPORTANT NOTICE: In light of rapidly-changing developments in relation to the Covid-19 virus, we have decided to postpone the visitation and memorial service that was originally scheduled for this Friday, March 20th. It was a difficult decision to come to, but we believe it was the right decision to make for all concerned. We will be holding a memorial service to honour Dad at a later date, and will be sure to let you know once a date has been set. With much love and appreciation from all of us.
********************************************************************************************************************************

After a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer, Alvin passed away peacefully in the early hours of February 27, 2020.

Lovingly remembered by his wife Daphne Barton (nee Vanderpool). Incredibly proud father of his children, Brian, Steve and Sandra Barton, and granddaughters Janelle and Kyra. Born in St. George, Barbados, Alvin is also survived by his siblings Milanese, Colin, Selwyn; and by his many nieces, nephews and other family members. Predeceased by his brothers George, Nigel, and Cyril.

Alvin dedicated his life to caring for others: in his professional life as an educator at the Montreal Children’s Hospital (and later with Sun Youth), and in the kindness and generosity he extended to others in his personal life. He was a renaissance man of sorts. He loved playing cricket, tennis, ping pong, bowling, riding his bike, and watching countless other sports on t.v. Alvin cooked, cleaned, and sewed, while randomly quoting from Shakespeare, whistling, or singing old standards and country songs. He won over legions of fans with his coconut bread, and charmed many more with his dance moves, and ready smile. He was equal parts Obama fan (Michelle and Barrack) and Williams fan (Serena and Venus). He loved his family and friends deeply, and showed that love in every way imaginable … and then showed it some more. He leaves behind his greatest love of all - our mother – his dance partner, confidante and best friend of 55 years.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Montreal Jewish General Hospital (Oncology or Palliative Care) or to the Canadian Cancer Society, would be greatly appreciated.

Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff for all the love and wonderful care provided.
