Roger Karl Cameron passed away peacefully at Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence in Kirkland, Quebec on May 17, 2026 at the age of 83 years.
Roger will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of almost 63 years Judith Anne Cameron (nee Hardman). Born in Petitcodiac, NB, September 25th 1942, Roger was the eldest child of Raleigh Karl Cameron and Reta May Elliott and is survived by his sons Scott (Kathy), Melbourne, Australia and Jamie (Nina), Burlington, ON; his daughters Heather (Pat), Montreal, QC and Peggy (John), St. John, NB; as well as his brother Bill, Petitcodiac, NB; his sister Janet Gallant (Jerry dec.), Petitcodiac, NB; his grandchildren Robin, Zeth, Angela, Evan, Nathaniel, Killian and Aimee; great-grandchildren Jordan, Galen and Teigan as well as his loved cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Raleigh and Reta, his brother Gary and great-grandson Keiran.
A resident of Pointe-Claire, Quebec since 1985, Roger began his long and accomplished career in public relations and marketing communications as a journalist with the Moncton Times-Transcript in 1960. It was in Moncton, NB that he met and married Judith Anne Hardman, daughter of John Hardman and Evelyn Mary Shibley in 1963. In 1965 he became a Regional Information Officer with Canadian National Railways at their Atlantic region headquarters. A promotion by CN in 1972 to System Information Officer at the CN system headquarters meant relocating the family to Montreal. From 1976-1985, Roger was Manager, Public Affairs for CN Marine in Monton NB, before returning to Montreal in 1985 as Director, Information Services for CN. In 1994, Roger started RKC Communications and in 1996 until his retirement worked with the Railway Association of Canada in Montreal as General Manager, Public Communications and then in Ottawa as Director, Public Affairs.
Roger enjoyed the great outdoors, fishing and camping, no matter the weather. In the summer of 1976, while living on the West Island of Montreal, it did not matter that the Montreal Olympic Games were being held nearby – it was instead the annual family summer road-trip to go camping. In later years, he enjoyed going to sporting events like The Grey Cup, no matter where it was being held, as well as Montreal Expos and Canadiens games with friends and co-workers.
Over the years Roger played an active role in professional, community and volunteer organisations, including the Canadian Public Relations Society, the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation, The Moncton and Montreal Press Clubs and Gerdy’s Rescues and Adoptions.
To all that knew him both personally and professionally, Roger was a kind and generous man who would do anything for anyone, always looking to help however he could. He was loved and will be forever missed.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the friends and neighbours who visited regularly and to the caregivers and medical teams who provided compassionate care and support.
In keeping with Roger's wishes, there will be a private service and internment announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to donate to the Lakeshore General Hospital Foundation or to the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence.
