It is with great sorrow that we announce that our beloved Sami Bishara Odeh passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 6th, at the age of 91, after a short illness.
He is survived by, and will be dearly missed by, his loving wife Aida Khoury; his brother Rajai and family, his beloved daughters Rula (Nabil) and their children Andrew (Maddy) and Grace; Rania and children Maria, Michael, Sammy and Patrick; Samia; and Randa (Farah) and their children William and Angelina; and Laura.
He cherished his wife Aida and was a devoted and gentle father who ensured his daughters received the best possible education to build a future in Canada.
He will be deeply missed by many wonderful extended family members and friends, including the Odeh, Khoury, Fawaz, Bastolli, Nasir, Mikhail, Yazigi, Haddad, Saad, Akel and Halazun families and all his cousins in the Holy Land.
Sami lived an extraordinary life marked by love, kindness, integrity, and a lifelong commitment to freedom, justice, and human rights for all—including for the Palestinian people.
As a well-known broadcaster and journalist at the BBC Arabic World Service and Saudi TV, he advanced knowledge and truth as well as an appreciation of worldwide cultures and societies. He also worked as a Public Relations and Advertising Manager with The Juffali Bros.
We are grateful for the compassionate care of the doctors, nurses and staff at Lakeshore Hospital as well as at the CIUSSS West Island and all the wonderful caregivers.
May he rest in peace.
