Samuel ''Captain'' Alleyne
October 21, 1949 - March 26, 2023
Mr. Samuel Christopher Alleyne, aka CAKES, PATCHES peacefully passed away, ending his short battle with cancer, on Sunday, March 26 2023, at the Lachine General Hospital Palliative unit, at the age of 73.
Samuel was born on the 21st of October, 1949 in St-Michael, Barbados, the sixth child of Clementine Hinds and Crispin Alleyne.
As a boy, he quickly acquired the nickname CAKES, because he would always be found eating SUGAR CAKE. He loved to play sports, like football and of course cricket. On the playground, he was also called PATCH, one of the 3 PATCHES friends. He also loved to cook, even though he didn't like food. He cooked for everybody.
His favorite words were: ''Backup; I am the Captain''; or ''They call me the Professor'', as he discussed and argued about politics.
Above all things, Sam was a very caring son, brother, husband, father and friend. He was gifted with an ability to attract and bring laughter to everyone he would come in contact with.
He touched lives, leaving an unforgettable memory trail wherever he went. He will be fondly remembered by all who had the chance to cross his path.
Samuel is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years Cynthia Gale-Alleyne, son Barry; stepchildren Grace (Carl) Gibson; Darrin Gale; Judy (Leon) Benjamin; 6 grandchildren; his brothers Evelyn (Marjorie) and Lemuel Alleyne; sister Sheila Johnson as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded by his parents Crispin Alleyne and Clementine Hinds; brother Irvin and sister Jocelyn.
The family will receive condolences at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 des Sources Blvd., DDO on Saturday April 15th 2023 from 12:00 to 3 pm followed by a Life Celebration at 3pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations made in his memory to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
