Sandra Hoffman
May 29, 1944 – July 2, 2023
Sandra Diane Hoffman (nee Funk), 79, of Montreal, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2023 after a year of gradually failing health in the wake of a stroke. She will be dearly missed by her husband Roy, her children Christopher (Andrea) and Michelle (Michael), and her grandchildren Nathan, Benjamin, Mira, Xavier, and Isla. She is predeceased by her parents, Donald and Myrtle Funk, and by her sisters, June (Douglas) and Ruth Anne, who both passed away in 2021.
Sandra was born on May 29, 1944 in Vineland, Ontario. She earned Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Waterloo and the University of Toronto, as well as her Master’s in Library Science from McGill University. She worked as a professional librarian at the University of Saskatchewan and Vanier College, followed by a twenty-year tenure at Concordia University.
Sandra loved physical activity, and at various stages of her life she enjoyed playing tennis, daily early-morning jogs, Aquafit, and throughout the pandemic and beyond, long neighbourhood walks with her husband. She inherited her father’s love of gardening, and she read widely. She was a longtime, committed member of Westview Bible Church, where she volunteered with the church library. She was also a devoted grandmother, pouring extensive time and energy into the provision of childcare and meals, and she fully exercised her grandmotherly prerogative to indulge small children with treats, toys, and attention.
The family wishes to extend their great appreciation to the staff of Sunrise of Dollard-des-Ormeaux who cared for Sandra over the past year, and who tended to her with kindness in her final days.
Donations in memory of Sandra may be made to the following organizations whose missions were important to her: Montreal Youth Unlimited, Frontier Lodge Christian Youth Camp, or the Concordia University Student Success Centre.
