In Loving Memory of Shahaireen (Maureen) Rahaman
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved sister, aunt, grand-aunt, and friend, Shahaireen (Maureen) Rahaman, who died on Friday, June 12, 2026, at the age of 86.
Born on March 11, 1940, in Bloomfield, Guyana, Maureen studied in Georgetown, Guyana, and in Ireland, and then moved to Montreal, Quebec, where she worked with fervour and dedication for over 30-years at McGill University’s Redpath Library.
Maureen is leaving behind her little sister Zoreen and brother-in-law, Jaiks; her sister-in-law, Dolly (preceded in death by her brother Amon); her brother and sister-in-law Drs. Azam and Alleah Rahaman; her brother Dr. Nizam Rahaman; and her sister in-law Lily (preceded in death by her brother Dr. Basheer Rahaman). Maureen also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and their spouses, and grand-nieces and nephews and their spouses, who will dearly miss her joie de vivre.
We will all deeply miss her feistiness and her fiery independence but more importantly, we will miss the deep love she modelled and demonstrated to her family, their spouses, and her friends. While there will be no more birthday cards received one-month before our birthdays, we know that she will be watching over us and praying for our health and continued happiness, as we will all pray for her journey to eternal bliss.
Thank you for keeping our family in your thoughts and prayers during this time of grieving.
Live stream begins at 11:00 a.m. https://funeraweb.tv/en/diffusions/125117
In lieu of flowers and in honor of our beloved Maureen, we kindly invite those who wish to do so to make a donation to the following charity or your mosque or religious institution of choice:
