<div itemprop="description">C’est avec une grande tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de Simone Renée Riebel (Dollé), survenu le 6 septembre 2026, à l’âge de 97 ans. <br> <br>Née à Strasbourg, en France, le 4 mars 1929, Simone était l’aînée des enfants de Caroline Wendling et d’Albert Dollé. Ses deux frères étaient Gérard et Albert. La Seconde Guerre mondiale a profondément marqué l’enfance de Simone en Alsace. De l’âge de 10 ans jusqu’à 16 ans, elle a vécu l’occupation allemande de l’Alsace ainsi que les épreuves et l’incertitude de ces années. Comme pour tant de personnes de sa génération, ces expériences l’ont accompagnée tout au long de sa vie et ont contribué à forger sa force, sa résilience et son profond attachement à la famille. <br> <br>Le 23 octobre 1952, elle a épousé Alfred Robert « Fred » Riebel à Strasbourg. Ils ont partagé près de 70 années de mariage, jusqu’au décès de Fred, le 2 avril 2022. <br> <br>En 1958, Simone et Fred ont traversé l’Atlantique en bateau, du Havre à Montréal, afin d’entamer ensemble un nouveau chapitre de leur vie au Canada. Ils y ont élevé leur famille et créé un foyer où la famille, les amis et la bonne cuisine occupaient toujours une place centrale. <br> <br>La cuisine était la grande passion de Simone et l’un de ses talents remarquables. Pendant 15 ans, elle a enseigné la cuisine gastronomique dans le cadre de programmes d’éducation des adultes offerts dans des écoles secondaires locales. Elle a ainsi transmis ses connaissances et son savoir-faire à de nombreux élèves, dont certains sont devenus des amis pour la vie. Elle abordait la cuisine avec créativité et précision, et ses plats, toujours magnifiquement présentés, étaient souvent de véritables œuvres d’art. Ses cours de cuisine ont fait l’objet de deux articles dans le Montreal Gazette. Pour sa famille, certains des plus beaux souvenirs demeurent les moments passés autour de sa table à savourer les merveilleux repas qu’elle préparait. <br> <br>La France a toujours occupé une place importante dans la vie de Simone. Elle et Fred aimaient y retourner pour rendre visite à leur famille et à leurs amis, et ils y emmenaient souvent leurs enfants afin que ceux-ci demeurent attachés à leurs racines alsaciennes et à leur famille élargie. <br> <br>Elle laisse dans le deuil ses enfants, Philippe (Pam) et Nathalie (Pierre); ses petits-enfants, Nicolas, Alexandre, Maxime, Ariane et Geoffroy; ainsi que son arrière-petite-fille, Anna. <br> <br>Simone a vécu 97 années extraordinaires, depuis son enfance dans une Alsace en guerre jusqu’à la création d’une nouvelle vie et d’une famille au Canada. De 1967 à 2026, elle a habité la même maison à Pierrefonds, qu’elle n’a quittée que durant les derniers mois de sa vie. <br> <br>On se souviendra d’elle pour sa force et sa résilience, sa générosité, son dévouement envers sa famille et ses amis, ainsi que pour les magnifiques repas qui ont rassemblé tant de personnes autour de sa table. <br> <br>Elle nous manquera profondément et son souvenir restera à jamais gravé dans nos cœurs. <br> <br>La famille tient à exprimer sa profonde gratitude à Krupa et Pragati Rathod pour leur dévouement, leur amitié et les soins attentionnés qu’elles ont prodigués à Simone durant les dernières années de sa vie. Nous remercions également tout le personnel du 4e étage, aile Est, de l’Hôpital général du Lakeshore pour les soins prodigués à Simone au cours des derniers mois. <br> <br>En témoignage de sympathie, la famille apprécierait grandement les dons faits à la mémoire de Simone à la Fondation des maladies du cœur et de l’AVC du Canada. En hommage à la passion de toute une vie de Simone pour la cuisine et l’alimentation saine, ces dons contribueront à soutenir des initiatives visant à aider les Canadiens à vivre plus longtemps et en meilleure santé. <br>__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ <br> <br>It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Simone Renée Riebel (Dollé) on September 6, 2026, at the age of 97. <br> <br>Born in Strasbourg, France, on March 4, 1929, Simone was the eldest child of Caroline Wendling and Albert Dollé. Her two younger brothers were Gérard and Albert. The Second World War profoundly shaped Simone’s childhood in Alsace. From the age of 10 until 16, she lived through the German occupation of Alsace and the hardships and uncertainty that came with those years. Like so many of her generation, those experiences remained with her throughout her life and helped shape her strength, resilience and deep appreciation for family. <br> <br>On October 23, 1952, she married Alfred Robert "Fred" Riebel in Strasbourg. They shared nearly 70 years of marriage until Fred's passing on April 2, 2022. <br> <br>In 1958, Simone and Fred crossed the Atlantic by ship from Le Havre to Montreal, to begin a new chapter of their lives together in Canada. They raised their family and created a home where family, friends and good food were always at the centre. <br> <br>Cooking was Simone's great passion and one of her remarkable talents. For 15 years, she taught gourmet cooking through adult education programs at local high schools, sharing her knowledge and skills with many students, some of whom became lifelong friends. She approached cooking with creativity and precision, and her beautifully presented dishes were often works of art. Her cooking classes were featured twice in the Montreal Gazette. For her family, some of the happiest memories are of gathering around her table for the wonderful meals she prepared. <br> <br>France always remained an important part of Simone's life. She and Fred loved returning to visit family and friends and often brought their children with them, ensuring that they remained connected to their Alsatian roots and extended family. <br> <br>She leaves behind her children, Philippe (Pam), Nathalie (Pierre); her grandchildren, Nicolas, Alexandre, Maxime, Ariane and Geoffroy; and her great-granddaughter, Anna. <br> <br>Simone lived an extraordinary 97 years, from a childhood in wartime Alsace to building a new life and raising a family in Canada. She lived in the same house in Pierrefonds until the last few months, from 1967 to 2026. <br> <br>She will be remembered for her strength and resilience, her generosity, her devotion to family and friends, and for the beautiful meals that brought so many people together around her table. <br> <br>She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. <br> <br>The family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation to Krupa and Pragati Rathod for their dedication, friendship and caring for Simone in the later years of her life. We also extend our appreciation to all the staff of 4th floor East Wing at the Lakeshore General Hospital for their care of Simone over the last few months. <br> <br>As expressions of sympathy, donations in memory of Simone to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada would be greatly appreciated by the family. In recognition of Simone's lifelong passion for cooking and healthy food, these donations will help support work aimed at helping Canadians live longer, healthier lives.</div>
