It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mrs. Soili Honkakangas (Syrjala), at the age of 99 on January 10th, 2026. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 75 years, Mr. Jalo Honkakangas by 13 days.
Born in Sakyla Finland to Amanda and Into Syrjala. Dear sister of Seija Peltonen (Kari). Predeceased by her sisters Salme and Aira and brothers Sulo and Seppo.
She leaves behind her adored children Chris (Lynn), Helen (Pierre) and Cathy. Her grandchildren Nicole (Nick), Erik (Elizabeth), Chantal and Sarah and her great grandson Finn. All of whom brought her great joy. She will also be missed by relatives and dear friends here and in Finland and Sweden, whose lives she touched with love, warmth and her contagious laughter.
She was a woman of great passion in all that she did. She was kind, generous and loved and appreciated all those around her. Never a day passed that she didn’t bring a smile to the face of others with her laughter and good heartedness. She enjoyed life.
After being separated from her husband for 2 years, she was so happy to have him join her at Chateau sur le Lac so that they could spend their last years together. We wish to thank the staff at Chateau sur le Lac for their care and compassion and for making her feel at home for over 3 years.
A visitation for Soili and Jalo will take place at a later date.
