Stella Mazzaferro, born Catananti, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at the age of 81, on May 2, 2026. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Franco Mazzaferro.
Born on January 17, 1945, in Cittanova, Italy, Stella moved to Montreal at the age of 22, where she settled and raised her family. A passionate gardener, skilled seamstress, and wonderful chef, she was the heart of a home always open to friends and family. She loved travelling the world with Franco, hosting holiday gatherings, and sharing laughter. She was always happiest in the company of those she loved. A devout Catholic, her faith was a source of kindness and she was a committed member of her church community. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by everyone who knew her.
Stella was a loving mother to Jenny (the late Emidio) and Michael, and a proud grandmother to Emanuela (Paulo), Gianfranco, Giancarlo, Giordano,Mikaela and the late Gabriele. She was predeceased by her sister Gisela and brother and sister-in-law Ted and Lina. She is survived by her siblings Rosa (Gianni), Maria, Teodoro (Angela), Pino (Marina), brothers-in-law Paul (Elizabeth) and Sam (Louise), as well as the many nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives she touched.
A Mass celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, May 12, at 12:00 pm at St. Edmund of Canterbury Parish (105 Beaconsfield Blvd, Beaconsfield, QC, H9W 3Z8). It will be followed by the committal at Rideau Memorial Gardens Mausoleum (4239 Sources Blvd, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, QC, H9B 2A6), where she will be laid to rest by her cherished husband in eternal peace.
