Susan Keess of Beaconsfield, Quebec, died on December 31, 2025, after a short illness. She was 74 years old. Her kindness, compassion, and love are greatly missed.
Born Susan Sylvia Woodger on April 24, 1951, in Port Chester, New York, she was the third of five daughters born to Herbert Arthur and Carol Magnusson Woodger. She graduated from Port Chester High School in 1969, then went on to the State University of New York at Potsdam, and graduated with a BA in psychology in 1973. She subsequently took a job with U.S. Customs, and it was while working at Montréal-Dorval (now Montréal-Trudeau) International Airport that she met her future husband, Alan Keess. They married on May 16, 1980, and had two sons: Harry Richard Keess, born in July 1985, and John Herbert Keess, born in March 1987. She enjoyed a happy 45-year marriage with Alan, took great pride in her sons’ intellectual, vocational, and personal achievements, and was a devoted sister. Aside from her family, Susan’s great passions in life included music, gardening, cooking, and reading.
Susan was predeceased by her sister Barbara Jean and by her parents. She leaves her husband, Alan; sons Harry (Elanna) and John; and sisters Laura Woodger Loehr (Paul), Elin Woodger, and Elizabeth W. Adkins (Fred). A memorial service will be held on April 25, 2026, at the Briarwood Presbyterian Church, 70 Beaconsfield Blvd, in Beaconsfield. Donations in Susan’s memory can be made to On Rock Community Services, Chez Doris, or Briarwood Presbyterian Church.
