It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Umberto Simeone on Saturday February 4th, 2023, at the age of 89.

Devoted husband to the late Alda Macolino; loving father to Victor, David (Antoinette), and Nadia (Richard); proud grandfather to Samantha (Bryan), Kristina (Mitchell), Alessandro and Erica; and beloved great-grandfather to Bianca, Olivia and Gabriella. He also leaves behind a loving brother, Pino (Consiglia), a sister-in-law, Nunziatina (Francesco), and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Umberto was born in San Lupo (BN), Italy. His childhood and views were greatly shaped by World War II and, at the age 18, young Umberto, along with his aunt Domenica and uncle Umberto, who was like a father figure, embarked on a journey that would take them to Canada in hopes of prosperity and a better life.

At 26, Umberto met the love of his life on a visit back to his hometown. The following year, he and Alda wed. Together, they would spend 61 years of married bliss and along the way, they built a beautiful family and a legacy in Canada.

Umberto lived for and cherished all his time with Alda and their family. An avid soccer fan, he loved the sound of children’s laughter, and nothing pleased him more than being surrounded by family members while sharing one of Alda’s famous meals. Umberto was resourceful by nature and mechanically inclined. He spent over 30 years working as a machinist at CN Railways and, thanks to his network of good work friends, he mastered the English and French languages. In his later years, Umberto became computer savvy and could be found communicating with various relatives and friends through Facebook and reading daily newspapers from around the world.

Umberto lived by the code - family first, honesty at all times, and planning for the future. He will be forever missed by his loving family and always remembered in their hearts.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice in his honour.
