It is with great sadness that the family of Bill Gate announce his passing on August 27, 2025 at Lakeshore General Hospital in Pointe-Claire, Québec.
Bill will be affectionately remembered by his beloved wife of 21 years Shirley Tang and their two adored sons, Samuel, Jesse; his sister Dianne Gate and brother Richard (Kathy) Gate as well as his extended family. Bill was predeceased by his father George Gate, mother Margaret Minchin and sister Brenda Gate.
Born on June 21, 1962 in Ocean Falls, British Columbia, Bill was a longtime coach who left a positive impact on numerous athletes during his career at the CAMO and Pointe-Claire swim clubs. Later in his career as the manager of the Aquatic Programs with the City of Pointe-Claire, he was proud to be involved in the planning of the new Malcolm-Knox Aquatic Centre where the pool was inaugurated in his father’s name.
During his life, Bill spent countless hours skiing, cycling, and exploring the beauty of nature with his friends and family. He also had a great passion for music, playing drums and performing with lifelong buddies. Bill will always be known as a devoted father, a loving husband and a loyal friend. His adventurous spirit, boundless enthusiasm, sense of humour and kind heartedness will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to staff in Unit 2B at Sainte-Anne’s Hospital and the nurses and doctors at Lakeshore General Hospital for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given in his name to NOVA West Island or the Alzheimer Society of Montreal.
A visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 13th, 2025 at Rideau Memorial Gardens, 4275 Sources Boulevard, Dollard-Des Ormeaux, QC H9B 2A6. It will be followed by a private family burial. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Pointe-Claire Curling Club.
