<div itemprop="description">GILLIES, Barbara Veronica (wife of Leo Conway) (former wife of Gerald Sweeney) <br> <br>Born October 17, 1930 - Toronto ON <br> <br>Barbara Veronica Gillies passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 19, 2020, at Beaconsfield, Quebec, surrounded by her loving children. She was 90 years old. <br> <br>Barbara is remembered as a cherished kind sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend. Barbara loved singing in the church choir at St. Veronica’s with family and friends. She loved family and would talk frequently about her children and her siblings, taking a great interest in others and their families. She also belonged to the Catholic Women’s League and other charitable groups and would visit anyone who was sick or alone. She loved her gardening, books, crosswords and her Jeopardy and Mysteries. <br> <br>Barbara was the fourth of six children and was always close to her siblings. She was born in Toronto, but the family moved to Akron, Ohio when she was 3. Her father died when she was nine. Her mother moved the family to the NDG neighbourhood of Montreal. She went to St. Augustine’s High School where she excelled. Barbara attended Marianopolis College after high school and later Concordia University. <br> <br>She married Gerald Sweeney in 1953 and they had six children together. They moved to Dorval in 1958, where she lived until recently (2017). Gerald died suddenly in 1984. Barbara married Leo Conway (a widower and family friend) in 1986. <br> <br>Barbara was predeceased by her parents, J. Bernard Gillies and Veronica E. Laurin, her first husband Gerald F. Sweeney, her brother David J. Gillies and her granddaughter Jessica D. Wright. Barbara is survived by her husband, Leo F. Conway, her siblings; Bernard A. Gillies, M. Lorraine Adrain, Kathleen H Ramsperger (Fred), and Gail A. Greczkowski, her children; Gregory (Wendy), M. Kathleen, Stephen (Brenda), Timothy (Carol), Barbara (David) and Theresa (Bruce), her 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. <br> <br>The family wishes to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the front-line workers at Manoir Beaconsfield, including Sabrina, Brenda and all the staff; as well as to Dr. Anne Marie Dollois, whose dedication and kindness in the face of personal risk provided Barbara with the care she needed and deserved. We also want to acknowledge and thank our own “Natural Care Giver”, Theresa Sweeney for her dedication to Barbara’s care and companionship over many years. <br> <br>Funeral Mass is at 11AM on Friday, September 24th, 2021, at St-Veronica’s Church (1300 Carson, Dorval, Quebec), followed by private interment at the cemetery.
