We regret to announce the passing of our mom. Bernice (O’Connor) Bamford somewhat suddenly on June 3, 2022 at the Chateau Dollard Senior’s Residence. She was 98 years old.

She will be missed by her sons, John (Calgary) and Bob (Ottawa), her Daughters in Law, Maureen and Andrea, her grandchildren, Sarah, Kimberley, Courtney, Sean and Matt and her great grandson, Dryden.

She was predeceased by her husband, Bob; her father, Peter O’Connor and her mother, Ethel McCoy and her brothers Edward and Thomas and her sister, Myrtle.

Mom was of Irish stock and had her roots in County Mayo, QC.

Mom lived independently for 96 of her 98 years and was the “Grand-Dame” of the family, keeping track of widespread nieces (Kathy, Cindi and Donna) cousins and other relatives. She faithfully completed the New York Times crossword puzzle every day right up to the day before her death. She could regale us with stories of her youth in Montreal and Park Extension, living through World War II and dating servicemen of that era and ultimately marrying one. She had a great curiosity about life and people. She was proud to have been part of the Mother’s Guild at Loyola High School.

Mom tried to make us believe that we had royalty in the family as some of her ancestors were Kelly’s who came from County Mayo in Ireland as did Grace Kelly who was married to Prince Rainier of Monaco. (never proven though).

We would like to thank the staff of Chateau Dollard and at St. Mary’s Hospital for their care while she stayed there.

We will miss her regular phone calls and just knowing she was there.

A funeral service will be held on Monday July 4,2022 at 12:00 PM at the Rideau Funeral home at 4275 boul. des Sources, Dollard des Ormeaux, QC.
