<div itemprop="description">Growing up in Mumbai, Chandra was a student extraordinaire. After earning a<br>M.A. from Bombay University in Mathematics in 1961, she was selected for a<br>research career in mathematics at the world famous Tata Institute of<br>Fundamental Research. She met and married Gowri there in 1964. They<br>migrated to Canada in 1968, where she earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics from<br>McGill University in 1972 and a M.Comp.Sc. in Computer Science from<br>Concordia University in 1987. She taught mathematics at Dawson College from<br>1982-2011. She was a devoted teacher, beloved by her many students, and has<br>published significant research papers in mathematics and computer science.<br>She served as the Chair of Mathematics at Dawson from 1999-2002.<br><br>Chandra was a multi-talented person. She was an artist of considerable breadth<br>and ability. She has produced many watercolours, oil, and multimedia paintings<br>and has won prizes in art competitions. She was an avid gardener and<br>everybody appreciated the beautiful flowers that she grew. She loved learning<br>throughout her life, including studying Chinese and Spanish over the last several<br>years. She loved singing classical Indian music. After retiring from Dawson<br>College she took up bridge and prided herself on often winning the weekly bridge<br>quizzes. She was an amazing and innovative cook who loved to spoil her<br>grandchildren by inventing new recipes.<br><br>A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held (as per her wish) at the<br>Mount Royal Funeral Complex on December 21, 2019. Her body will be<br>cremated following Hindu rituals on August 7, 2019.<br><br>Chandra is survived by her husband 'Gowri' of 54 years and her children Aditi<br>and Gautam (Kathie Barnes). She was the wonderful and most loving Aaji of<br>Sheela, Leena and Lakshmi. Her wit, candor, and the chapatis she lovingly<br>made will be missed by many family and friends.<br><br>The family wants to thank the cardiologist Dr. Richard Sheppard and the<br>wonderful staff at the Jewish General Hospital for their loving and extraordinary<br>care. In lieu of flowers a donation to Jewish General Hospital Foundation will be<br>appreciated.</div>
