Garnet Allen Alexander was born May 1st, 1940 in Rainy River, Ontario to Fred and Olga Alexander. He passed away peacefully October 4th, 2021 due to complications from Cancer. Preceded in death by his loving wife Ann(nee Roy), he is survived by his five children Cara(Craig), Leonard(Jill), Dolores(Steve), Garnet(Mary), Vance(Angie) and his thirteen grandchildren: Chandler, Reid, Quinn, Cole, Riley, Kevin, Haley, Brendan, Burke, Sophie, Jaxon, Juliet, Renee as well as many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

Garnet was quite the pool player in his younger days. He would play so he could win money and take Ann out on dates. Over the years he enjoyed curling, golfing, and playing bridge with his buddies. Garnet was considered a bit of a card shark and he and Ann were known on the bridge circuit for their skilled play. Garnet also enjoyed playing cards, especially crib, with his children and grandchildren but he did not give out any freebies, no matter your age. You had to earn your wins! Garnet was a big fan of country music and Elvis Presley and loved to twirl Ann out on the dance floor.

Garnet worked on the CN as a Traffic Systems Analyst until he retired. He started in Sioux Lookout and was transferred to Winnipeg and eventually Montreal. When he wasn’t working he was coaching ringette, umping softball, or driving his kids to their numerous sporting events or watching TV! Garnet lived a simple life and loved his family. Every summer for 46 consecutive years he and Ann would return to Sioux Lookout and Dryden to be with their families. He will be missed by all of us.

Visitation will take place Sunday, October 17th from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Sources Blvd, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, 514-685-3344, arbormemorial.ca. A service for the family will follow which will be livestreamed; friends and family are welcome to join us virtually using the following link: https://fweb.tv/63261

For those who would like, donations can be made to The Terry Fox Foundation in his memory : http://www.terryfox.ca/InMemoryofGarnetAllenAlexander
