Georg Frehner departed this physical world on November 15, 2024, at the age of 87.

He was born in 1937 in the town of Mauthausen, Austria to Anna Steinbrecher and raised in Piding and Bad Reichenhall, Germany. Anna Steinbrecher married Beda Frehner, who adopted Georg as his own son in 1942.

In 1956, after graduating with a diploma in hotel and restaurant management and looking for a change and some adventure, Georg left his homeland of Bad Reichenhall, Germany and traveled to Montreal. He never looked back, as he met Doreen Newark, who would become the love of his life, soon after arriving in Montreal.

They married in 1957 and quickly started a family, eventually settling in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, QC. In the 1950’s and 60s he worked as a waiter at some of the finest establishments in Montreal - the Beaver Club, the Mount Royal Club and the Queen Elizabeth Hotel. From the 70s until his retirement, he was self-employed as a taxi driver chauffeuring locals and tourists all over Montreal.

He was a family man who enjoyed camping by the lake in the summertime. He loved helping Doreen look after the grandkids when they were young. He kept himself abreast about worldly matters, reading up to three newspapers daily, and enjoyed discussions covering a wide range of topics.

Georg leaves behind his loving wife Doreen. He is fondly remembered by children Carol, George (Denise), Paul (Susanne), and his grandchildren Steven, Katie, Jacqueline, Amalie, Ingrid, Justin, Kevin and Meghan and his step-grandson Alex (Veronika). He also leaves behind his good friend Erika Kling and many other family members in Germany and elsewhere.

Special thanks to the nurses and staff at CHSLD LaSalle, CLSC Pierrefonds and the staff of Customized Homecare who provided exceptional care for Georg in the final months of his life.

Public visitation will take place at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Sources Blvd, Dollard-Des Ormeaux on Friday, November 29, 2024, at 11 :30 AM. A funeral ceremony will immediately follow at 1 :00 pm.

Memorial donations in Georg’s name can be sent to your favorite charity.
