It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Murphy on August 29, 2024 peacefully at the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence. Known affectionately as Gerry, he was born on February 21, 1944, in Montreal. He spent his life in the city he loved, where he created a warm and welcoming home for his family and friends.
Beloved husband of Geraldine (née Humnicky), he is survived by his son Sean (Ashley), his granddaughters Maegan and Michelle (Ryan) and his brother Larry (Kathleen). He was predeceased by his son Drew and sisters Beverly and Cathy whom he held close to his heart.
In addition to his immediate family, Gerry is survived by Diane Brasseur, the mother of his children, as well as a wide circle of cousins, nieces, and nephews in Canada and the US. He cultivated lasting friendships throughout his life and will be sorely missed by his Holiday Luggage family and many close friends. Special thanks to Linda and Victor, who were beyond helpful in his last days. A sports fan and history buff, Gerry enjoyed sharing his knowledge and experiences with others, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew him. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, humour and the joy he brought to every gathering.
A special thanks to the staff of the Lakeshore General Hospital's Oncology Clinic and the Four West Wing, as well as Sandra, Janet, and Michel (the Barber of Seville) of the Day Medicine Clinic. In honour of Gerry's memory, donations to the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence or another charity of choice would be greatly appreciated. Gerry's legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
The funeral will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024 at Saint Patrick's Basilica, 460 René-Lévesque Blvd W, Montreal, Quebec H2Z 1A7. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by Mass at 10:30 am. Cremation with burial will be at a later date.
