Ilona Maria Borisenko passed away suddenly on October 16, 2022 while being treated at the Vallyefield Hospital.

Born in 1948 in Belgium to a German mother and a Ukranian father, they immigrated to Montreal, Quebec when she was still a young child. This international background was an early indicator of what would become her greatest passion....travel. After graduating Highschool, she began working at the Bank of Montreal and stayed there until she retired. As mentionned, her greatest passion was travel and she had many international adventures in her 74 years. She often said she should have been a travel agent rather than a bank employee. She also loved music, all genres, and one could often hear the thumping of the base in her car as she approached. As a young adult, she played the accordian and also satisfied her creativity by painting; one could often see her with a palette in her hand standing in front of an easel.

Ilona was spontaneous, fun-loving, a loyal friend and lived life on her own terms. She always had a youthful spirit and a zest for life. Her sometimes brusk manner hid a gentle soul who felt things deeply.

She is survived by her second cousins, Thomas Unterstab and Claudia Unterstab as well as by her lifelong friend, Claudette Brodeur Laferriere.

Her physical presence will be greatly missed but her spirit will always be among us.
