It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother and sister, at the age of 92 years.

Mary Frances (Fran) Bourgeois (nee McGilly) Nov 7, 1931- Sept 3, 2024

Predeceased by Gerard (Gerry), her husband of almost 50 years, and her parents Sarah (O'Brien) and Eugene McGilly. Much beloved and missed by her brother Bernard McGilly (Suzanne deceased, Maureen McMullen) and her sister Ann (Donald) Thompson and their families; her children Dan (Maureen McDonald), Tom, Pat (Emma Pietracupa), and Larry; her grandchildren David (Becky Delorme), Sam and Claire Bourgeois (Yoann). Fondly missed in life and memory by extended family and friends both here and in Ireland.

A true Montrealer: St. Dominic's Parish on des Erables, Hochelaga Convent, Notre Dame Secretarial College. Danced at Victoria Hall on Saturday nights. Picnic-ed with her O'Brien cousins on St. Helen's Island with just enough money for the streetcar and a coke. Worked at Rotogravure Printing Press for the Montreal Star, then at the CPR in the Board of Trade building until her marriage, seated in the secretarial pool in front of Scotty Bowman!

Married co-worker Gerry at St. Dominic's Parish, bringing up their family in Cartierville QC, Saint John NB, and Dollard-des-Ormeaux QC. Fran and Gerry were very active in St. Thomas à Becket parish and the church social club, involved in Becket Players’ Way Off Broadway, both on stage and off, from the very start. Fran counted and recorded the weekly parish collection for decades and supported Gerry's work as warden and with the FANIA project in Honduras. She also supported Gerry in his work life at CPR and with the Traffic Club of Montreal. Together they travelled widely around the world, camping, touring and on cruises.

A wonderful homemaker, baker and knitter, she hosted big family gatherings, extending hospitality to friends, neighbours and come from aways. She always made good company and good food, and had a vigorous appetite for both. She also enjoyed playing bridge and cards of all kinds.

Generous and nonjudgmental she took people of all ages under her wing. Dear to all who met her for open-hearted plain speaking, her quick laugh and natural sense of humour. Her innate sense of values and social justice were present from an early age. She treated all people equally without regard for their circumstances.

Her years at the Cambridge seniors' residence were a highlight of her life. There she found fast friends and a full social calendar.

Many thanks to the dedicated staff and friends that she made at Vivalis Residence. And to the kind, committed staff of 4 South and Palliative Care at the Lakeshore General Hospital in her final days.

Visitation at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Sources Blvd, Dollard-des-Ormeaux QC Wed Sept 11, 2024 from 2:00-5:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm.

Mass of Christian Burial at St Thomas à Becket, 4320 Saint-Anne Street, Pierrefonds-Roxboro QC Thurs Sept 12, 2024 at 11:30am. Reception to follow in the church hall.
