It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Merlyn Delleta Brown (née Townsend), who passed away peacefully in Calgary, Alberta, on September 1, 2026, at the age of 77.
Born in Jamaica, Merlyn was proud of her heritage and carried her roots close to her heart throughout her life. She later made her home in Canada, first in Montreal and, in more recent years, in Calgary.
Merlyn was a strong and independent woman who knew her own mind and was never afraid to speak it. She was honest, determined and unmistakably herself. Those who knew her will remember her strength, her warmth and the lasting impression she made wherever she went.
At the centre of Merlyn’s life were her three sons, Paul, Lincoln and Kevin. She loved each of them deeply and was a proud and cherished grandmother to Tasheena, Tashauna, Kimberly, Tatiyana and Tristan, and a loving great grandmother to Marielle and Kalaina. The love, lessons and memories she shared with her family will continue to live on through them.
Her faith was an important part of her life and a source of strength and comfort. Over the years, she formed meaningful and lasting relationships within her church community in Montreal and, later, in Calgary. She will be remembered fondly by both church families.
Merlyn leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Calvin Brown; her sons, Paul Parker, Lincoln Frazer (Marlene) and Kevin Coke; her grandchildren, Tasheena Parker, Tashauna Parker, Kimberly Coke, Tatiyana Frazer and Tristan Frazer; and her great grandchildren, Marielle and Kalaina.
She will also be deeply missed by her siblings, Florence, Mavis, Ira, Isolyn, Alexander (Veronica), Sylvia, James (Angella) and Margaurita (Assad); as well as her many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
Although her passing leaves a deep emptiness, Merlyn’s strength, words, love and unforgettable spirit will remain with us. She will be greatly missed and forever cherished by all whose lives she touched.
“Forever loved, forever remembered and forever in our hearts.”
