Muriel passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her residence in Montreal on
September 30th, 2023 in her 99th year.
She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Lorne Joseph (2015) as well as her
granddaughter Leigha Walker, and her grandson Adam Deane. Loving and devoted mother of
Nancy (Tom Deane), Mary (Michael Miller), Patrick (Glenda White) Kevin, Elizabeth (Bob
Walker) and Melanie (Barry Agnew). Beloved Grandma to 17 grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren with one more soon to arrive.
Muriel was born at home on the family farm in Monkland, Ontario. She was the daughter of
the late Ranald and Helen Quail (Wheeler).The youngest of 12 children, Muriel was
predeceased by all her siblings and their spouses. Her death marks the end of this generation
of the Quail family.
Muriel attended CCVS High School in Cornwall graduating in 1943. Following high school,
she obtained a teaching certificate from Ottawa Normal School. In 1944, she began her
teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Roxborough Township where she taught
grades 1 to 8. She later taught at Westfront School and St Columban’s East in Cornwall.
Muriel and Lorne were married on August 11, 1951 and moved to Montreal in 1964 when
Lorne took a position at the head office of Domtar Pulp and Paper. The family settled in Pointe
Claire to raise their six children.
Muriel was a woman of deep faith which was evident of how she lived her life. As a member of
St. John Fisher Parish, Muriel was a dedicated volunteer with the Ladies Guild and the Altar
Ministry, she enjoyed singing in the senior choir, and worked as a Pastoral Animator at St.
John Fisher School.
In her later years after Lorne passed away, Muriel continued to live at the former Reseau
Selection Residence before moving to Chateau Sur Le Lac.
The family will be forever grateful for the wonderful, compassionate care Mom received from
the staff at both residences. A special thank you to her caregivers Loly, Beatrice, Rita and
Chantal as well as nurses Metusila and Sheri, as they were all so good to our mother.
The family will receive condolences at St. John Fisher Parish, 120 Summerhill Ave, Pointe
Claire, QC H9R 2L7 on Saturday, October 28th, at 10:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass at
11:30 am. A reception will follow in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in her honour can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or a
charity of your choice.
