Patricia Ann Oaten was born in a small town in South Wales, U.K.. Her parents, Ronald James Reynolds and Mary Dobbyn, ran small catering businesses and eventually pubs in the area. Pat decided that south Wales was not for her in the long term and after high school attended teachers’ training college in London, graduating in 1969. During these years she met John Oaten and they married in 1970.
In 1971 the Oatens left the UK and lived and worked in Spain, Canada, the US, Germany, and for over 20 years in Hong Kong. They returned to Canada (Montreal) in 2014.
Pat spent much of her time overseas teaching kids and adults of a multitude of nationalities and environments. She also produced four kids of her own who carry on the line in Montreal and Vancouver. She is survived by her husband and three of her four children.
