<div itemprop="description">C'est avec grande tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de Robert La Haye, époux, papa et grand-papa bien-aimé. Il est décédé à l'âge de 76 ans, entouré de sa famille, le 6 août 2019, à Montréal. Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse Aline, ses trois filles Geneviève (Éric), Catherine et Dominique (Kenichi), sa petite-fille Frédérique, ses belles-filles Nadine (Christopher), Johanne (Jerry) et Mélanie (Venelin) ainsi que ses beaux-petits-fils Aidan, Dale, Dean et Zachary. Son décès laissera également un grand vide dans la vie de sa famille élargie Linda, Pierre et Russell, ses proches, amis, ex-collègues et anciens collaborateurs. <br> <br>Aujourd’hui retraité, il a mené une carrière remarquable de 47 ans en tant qu'avocat criminaliste. Après avoir obtenu une licence en droit à l'Université d'Ottawa et été admis au Barreau du Québec en 1969, il a fait ses débuts au Bureau de l'aide juridique de Montréal, avant de fonder son cabinet juridique spécialisé en droit criminel et pénal (1975). Il s'est illustré auprès des différentes instances judiciaires, de la Cour municipale jusqu'à la Cour suprême du Canada, où il a défendu plusieurs causes, dont certaines de mœurs. Il a été vice-président de l'Association des avocats de la défense de Montréal (1980), puis récipiendaire du prix Léo-René Maranda (2006), ainsi que juge municipal à Hudson, Pincourt et Saint-Léonard (1980-2003). Il a également été conseiller municipal à la municipalité de Les Cèdres (1978-1982). Il aimait communiquer et vulgariser le droit par le biais de collaborations médiatiques. Tout au long de sa vie, il a cultivé ses passions : arts martiaux, plongée sous-marine, aviation et motocyclette. <br> <br>La famille tient à remercier le personnel de l'unité des soins intensifs de l'Hôpital général de Montréal qui a su l'accompagner avec respect et dignité jusqu'à son dernier souffle. <br> <br>La famille recevra les condoléances à la Maison funéraire Rideau, 4275, boulevard des Sources, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, le samedi 17 août, de 16 h 30 à 20 h 30, et le dimanche 18 août, de 12 h à 13 h 30. Les funérailles auront lieu sur place à 14 h. <br> <br>Des dons à Justice Pro Bono seraient grandement appréciés par la famille. He died at the age of 76, surrounded by his family, on August 6, 2019 in Montreal. He is survived by his wife Aline, his three daughters Geneviève (Éric), Catherine and Dominique (Kenichi), his granddaughter Frédérique and his step-daughters Nadine (Christopher), Johanne (Jerry) and Mélanie (Venelin) as well as his step-grandchildren Aidan, Dale, Dean and Zachary. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his extended family Linda, Pierre and Russell, his relatives, friends, and former colleagues and employees. <br> <br>Today retired, his illustrious career as a criminal lawyer spanned over 47 years. After earning a law degree at the University of Ottawa, he was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1969. He started his career in the Office of Legal Aid of Montreal, before founding his own law firm specializing in criminal and penal law (1975). He distinguished himself through various courts, from Municipal Courts to the Supreme Court of Canada, where he championed various causes. He was the vice-president of the Association des avocats de la défense de Montréal (1980), the recipient of the Léo-René Maranda award (2006) and a municipal judge in Hudson, Pincourt and Saint-Léonard (1980-2003). He was also the city councillor for the municipality of Les Cèdres (1978-1982). He loved to explain complex legal topics to the public in simple terms through regular collaboration with the media. Throughout his life he pursued his passions: martial arts, scuba diving, aviation and motorcycling. <br> <br>The family wishes to thank the staff of the Intensive Care Unit at the Montreal General Hospital who accompanied him to his last breath with respect and dignity. <br> <br>The family will receive condolences at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Sources Blvd., Dollard-des-Ormeaux, on Saturday, August 17, 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., and Sunday, August 18, 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The funeral will be on site at 2:00 p.m. <br> <br>The family would greatly appreciate donations to Justice Pro Bono - an organization that provides vulnerable citizens with access to free legal services.
