It is with hearts full of sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Ata Hatami. He left our world on June 13, 2026.

There wasn’t a single room Ata’s presence wouldn’t light up. He had a kind of generosity that left its imprint on all those around him, a laughter that was truly contagious. In his company, we felt the depths of joy and love in their fullest capacity. He was somehow the gentlest soul, and the funniest person in the room – both at the same time.

For Ata, family meant everything. He adored his nephew Nikahn – no conversation would go by without stories of all their adventures. He was so grateful for who he called “the best parents anyone could ask for.” And when it came to his sister, he regarded her as the world’s greatest gift.

Ata was a lover of math, and it was his mission to make his students love it too. He was a dedicated and patient teacher, the kind that made students believe in themselves. Outside of the classroom, Ata was a hard-core Liverpool fan. And in 2019, he finally got to witness his team lift the Champions League trophy.

Though Ata is no longer with us, his memory will forever remain in our hearts. The Persian poet Rumi – who had a profound impact on Ata – gives us words that help us make sense of our immeasurable grief.

Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes.
Because for those who love with heart and soul
there is no such thing as separation.

Ata, we love you with our heart and soul. May you rest in eternal peace.
