It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. William Noel David Weir (89) of Pointe Claire, Qc. Born December 27, 1934 in Mount Hamilton, Cloughmills, Ballymena, Northern Ireland passed away peacefully Thursday, May 2nd, 2024 in Kirkland, QC.
Noel attended the Poly Tech in Belfast where he studied engineering and started his lifelong passion with aircraft design, beginning his apprenticeship at Shorts in Belfast as a minor, at the age of 16. He met the love of his life at a community dance shortly after, and married Margaret Orr on August 16th, 1958. They adopted their first child, a son, in 1962.
He immigrated to Canada in 1964 with his very young family and worked as an Aeronautical Engineer at Canadair/Bombardier for over 35 years.
They settled in Pierrefonds and built their home there in 1965. Shortly after, they adopted their daughter in 1966.
Noel was a very involved member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pierrefonds. He was a church elder, treasurer and an enthusiastic participant in all aspects of church life.
Noel was a very involved parent, attending his children's activities and events. He was community minded, which included coaching, volunteering with community events and an active member to the Pierrefonds Lawn Bowling Club. In his early days Noel played competitive badminton, which was replaced with lawn bowling and darts at a later age.
Noel is survived by his son Peter (Sally), his daughter Maude (Mike) and 4 grandsons: Cameron, Mitchell, Nicholas and Taylor.
He was predeceased by his parents, David and Mary Weir (Cloughmills, Northern Ireland). His wife Margaret Florence Fairbanks Weir (Orr) and his second wife Carol Ann Morrison.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Christian's Children Fund in the name of Noel Weir
