It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. Gilbert Verghese, a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and colleague, who left us far too soon on February 2, 2025, at the age of 60.
Born on March 15, 1964, Gilbert brought light and joy into the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. A devoted son and sibling, he cherished his family deeply, always offering his time and support without hesitation. He took it upon himself to keep the family connected, organizing weekly Zoom meetings that became a cherished tradition, strengthening their bond across any distance.
As an uncle, he was wise and kind, offering knowledge, unwavering generosity, and endless love to his nieces and nephews.
Gilbert was a loyal friend and a trusted confidant. His intelligence and wisdom were evident in every conversation—whether he was offering insightful advice, sharing his vast knowledge, or engaging in thoughtful discussions.
Professionally, Gilbert was the Director of IT at Trinity College, University of Toronto, where he worked for 36 years. A brilliant professional, he was highly respected for his work ethic and problem-solving abilities. He will be missed by all who had the honor of working with him.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in the countless beautiful moments he gifted us. He will be remembered for his kindness, intellect, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. His absence leaves a void that cannot be filled.
Gilbert is survived by his loving parents, Thomas and Phyllis; his cherished siblings, George (Joanne), Glenn (Veronique), and Gerald (Lisa); his adored nieces and nephews, Gareth, Gabriel, Gerika, and Gracianne; his beloved friend, Nina; and a wide circle of close relatives, friends, and colleagues who will miss him deeply.
A celebration of Gilbert’s life will be held on Saturday, March 22nd, at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Sources Blvd., Dollard-des-Ormeaux, QC, at 1 p.m. (service at 2 p.m.), where family and friends will gather to honor and remember the incredible person he was. https://fweb.tv/169862
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the charity of your choice in Gilbert’s memory.
Rest in peace, dear Gilbert. You will always be loved, remembered, and missed beyond measure.
